How We Keep You Safe

Verified Recipients

Before anyone can receive funds on A Better Gift, they complete a two-step identity check:

  • A Better Gift verification — every recipient submits a government-issued photo ID, which our team reviews before the account is marked verified
  • Payment partner verification — our payment partner runs an additional identity check including legal name, date of birth, address, and Social Security Number

Both checks must pass before any contribution can be paid out. Verified recipients display a Verified Recipient badge on every request, so contributors know exactly who they're supporting.

Secure Payment Processing

All payments are processed through Stripe, one of the world's most trusted payment processors:

  • PCI Level 1 Certified — The highest level of payment security
  • 256-bit SSL encryption — All data is encrypted in transit
  • Fraud detection — Machine learning identifies suspicious activity
  • 3D Secure — Additional authentication for supported cards

Content Moderation

We review requests to ensure they comply with our policies:

  • Automated systems flag potential policy violations
  • Human review for flagged content
  • User reporting mechanism for community concerns
  • Swift action on confirmed violations

What Happens When We Investigate

When we receive a report or detect potential misuse, our process includes:

  • Initial Assessment: We review the report and available information
  • Account Review: If warranted, we may suspend the account while investigating
  • Information Gathering: We may contact the parties involved for additional information
  • Review: Our team evaluates all evidence against our policies
  • Action: We take appropriate action based on our findings
  • Communication: We notify relevant parties of our decision when possible

📋 Investigation Timeline

Most investigations are completed within 5–10 business days. Complex cases may take longer. Because funds are routed directly to recipients via Stripe at the time of payment, our enforcement actions focus on account-level decisions such as suspension or removal of the request.

Protecting Yourself

While we work hard to keep the platform safe, here are some tips to protect yourself:

For Contributors

  • Know who you're helping: Only contribute to requests from people you personally know
  • Verify independently: If you receive a request from someone unexpected, contact them through another channel to confirm
  • Trust your instincts: If something feels off, don't contribute
  • Review the details: Read the full request before contributing

For Request Creators

  • Be honest: Only share accurate information about your situation
  • Protect your link: Only share your request link with people you trust
  • Secure your account: Use a strong, unique password
  • Monitor your request: Check for any unexpected activity

🚨 Phishing Warning

A Better Gift will never ask for your password via email or phone. Be suspicious of any communication asking for login credentials or payment information outside of our official platform.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do if I think I've been scammed?

Contact our Trust & Safety team immediately at support@abettergift.com. Include all relevant information about the request and your contribution. If you believe you've been the victim of fraud, you may also want to report it to the FTC, contact your local law enforcement, and notify your bank or credit card company.

How quickly do you respond to reports?

We review all reports within 24 hours. Urgent safety concerns are prioritized. Most investigations are completed within 5–10 business days.

Can I report anonymously?

Yes, you can submit anonymous reports. However, providing contact information helps us follow up if we need additional details.

What if I disagree with a decision?

If your request was removed or your account was suspended, you can appeal by contacting support@abettergift.com. Include your username and explain why you believe the decision should be reconsidered.

Does A Better Gift verify every request?

We verify the identity of every recipient with a government-issued photo ID before they can receive any contributions. We also use automated and manual review processes to identify potential policy violations. However, we cannot independently verify every claim made within a request itself, which is why we recommend only contributing to people you know or to causes you have reason to trust.

How do I know a request I received from a friend isn't a scam?

If the request came directly from someone you know — via text, email, or DM from their actual account — you can be confident it's authentic, because A Better Gift requests are not publicly listed and only the request creator can share the link. The risk isn't strangers impersonating your friend on the platform; it's the broader risk of any account being compromised. If something feels off (the message style is unusual, the request seems out of character, the amount doesn't match what you'd expect), call or video chat the person directly through a number you already have for them — not by replying to the message. Every recipient on A Better Gift has been identity-verified with a government-issued photo ID, so the person receiving the funds is who they say they are. The verification doesn't catch every claim inside a request, which is why we recommend only contributing when you've confirmed the situation with the person directly.

What information does A Better Gift share with law enforcement?

A Better Gift cooperates with valid legal requests from law enforcement — subpoenas, court orders, and similar formal processes. We do not share user data voluntarily or with law enforcement without proper legal process. When we receive a valid request, we provide only the specific information required by the request, narrowly scoped. Payment processing data (card numbers, bank account numbers) is held by Stripe, not A Better Gift, and would be requested separately from Stripe directly. We notify affected users of legal requests where permitted by law. Our full Privacy Policy explains the scope of data collection and how it's handled.
